A CAD course should match the job you want, not the software with the loudest advertising. For most drafting careers in India, AutoCAD is the first skill, and a second tool such as Revit, SolidWorks or STAAD.Pro adds the specialisation.
Quick answer
Civil and architecture learners: AutoCAD, then Revit or STAAD.Pro. Mechanical learners: AutoCAD, then SolidWorks. Interior designers: AutoCAD, then 3ds Max. Not sure? Book a free demo and the counsellor will suggest a path.
An online AutoCAD course teaches drafting through live video sessions on your own laptop. You draw along with the trainer, submit practice drawings for feedback, and receive a certificate of completion at the end. All you need is a laptop and a stable internet connection.
A beginner AutoCAD course starts with the interface, units and basic drawing commands, then adds editing tools, layers, dimensions and plotting. With regular practice, most beginners can produce a clean, dimensioned plan or part drawing within a few weeks.
The civil AutoCAD course teaches building plans, elevations, sections, site plans, structural detailing drawings and plotting to scale. You finish with a set of residential drawings you can present to employers or use on internships.
The mechanical AutoCAD course teaches part drawings, projections, sectional views, dimensioning with tolerances and assembly drawings. It prepares you to read and produce drawings that a fabrication or machining shop can follow.
AutoCAD Electrical is a toolset inside the AutoCAD subscription for designing electrical control systems. The course covers projects, schematic symbols, automatic wire numbering, PLC drawings, panel layouts and bill-of-material reports.
MEP drafting means drawing building services: HVAC ducts, plumbing and drainage pipes, fire-fighting lines and electrical layouts. The course teaches how to draw them on a base plan, use layers and xrefs correctly and produce coordination drawings.
The AutoCAD interior design course covers furniture layouts, false-ceiling and lighting plans, wall elevations, flooring patterns and joinery details. You learn to produce dimensioned sheets that a contractor can price and build without repeated calls.
AutoCAD 3D modelling uses solids, surfaces and meshes. The course covers the user coordinate system, extrude, revolve, sweep, loft, boolean operations, sections, visual styles and creating 2D views from a 3D model.
The advanced AutoCAD course covers dynamic blocks, attributes and data extraction, xrefs, sheet sets, CAD standards, annotative objects, tool palettes, scripts and an introduction to AutoLISP. It targets speed, consistency and team workflows.
AutoCAD Plant 3D is a toolset for process plant design. You draw P&IDs, place equipment, route pipes from specifications and catalogues, and generate piping isometrics, orthographic views and material reports directly from the 3D model.
In a Hindi-medium AutoCAD course the trainer teaches concepts and workflows in Hindi while commands, menus and drawing terms stay in English, because the software itself is in English. You learn the vocabulary naturally as you draw.
Revit is Autodesk’s BIM (Building Information Modelling) software. You model walls, floors, roofs and families in 3D, and Revit generates the 2D views and schedules from the same model, so a change in one place updates everywhere.
SolidWorks is a parametric 3D CAD program from Dassault Systèmes, widely used for mechanical parts, assemblies and product design. The course covers sketching, features, assemblies, drawings, sheet metal and basic motion checks.
STAAD.Pro is structural analysis and design software from Bentley Systems. The course covers modelling beams, columns and slabs, defining supports and loads, load combinations, running analysis, and interpreting results for design as per applicable codes.
3ds Max is Autodesk’s 3D modelling, animation and rendering software. In the course you model interiors and products, apply materials, set up lights and cameras and render still images, often starting from an AutoCAD plan.
Civil 3D is Autodesk’s civil engineering design software built on AutoCAD. It creates dynamic surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors and grading models, so a change in the design updates sections, plans and quantities.
Most successful learners do not collect software names. They build one strong base and then add a second tool that matches the job they want.
Choose AutoCAD and a discipline track. It leads directly to draftsman and technician roles.
Learn AutoCAD first, then Revit. Employers often want both. See why employers want AutoCAD and Revit.
Learn AutoCAD for drawing discipline, then SolidWorks. See AutoCAD vs SolidWorks.
Add 3ds Max or SketchUp after your drawings are accurate. See AutoCAD vs SketchUp.
AutoCAD runs on most modern laptops. Revit, Civil 3D, 3ds Max and SolidWorks need more memory and a stronger graphics card, so check the vendor's system requirements before enrolling. If you are not sure, tell the counsellor your laptop's model and memory and they will advise.
