About the AutoCAD Advanced Course

Once you can draw, the next gains come from not drawing: reusing, automating and standardising. The advanced course teaches the features that turn a competent user into a fast and consistent one.

You build dynamic blocks that replace dozens of static ones, attach attributes so drawings carry data, and extract schedules automatically. You set up templates, CAD standards and sheet sets so a team can produce consistent drawings.

Finally, you customise: tool palettes, scripts and a gentle introduction to AutoLISP. The goal is not to make you a programmer, but to remove repetitive tasks from your day.

Who should take the AutoCAD Advanced Course?

Practising draftsmen

Cut repeated work.

Team leads

Set drawing standards.

Learners finishing the basic course

Move to professional workflow.

What you will be able to do

  • Build dynamic blocks with parameters and actions
  • Attach attributes and extract schedules
  • Use xrefs, CAD standards and layer translation in a team
  • Set up sheet sets and title block fields
  • Customise tool palettes and scripts
  • Run simple AutoLISP routines

Your first month. You build your first dynamic door block, attach attributes and extract a door schedule.

A worked example from class

You turn a 900 mm door block into a dynamic block: a linear parameter for width, a stretch action, a value set of 750, 800, 900 and 1000, and a flip parameter. You add attributes for door number, then extract all doors in a drawing into a schedule. A sheet set then numbers sheets using fields in the title block.

What you need to practise

  • Full AutoCAD installation
  • A working knowledge of layers, blocks and layouts
  • Sample multi-sheet projects
  • A text editor for scripts
  • Patience for testing

How progress is assessed

You deliver a template with your own layer standard, a small dynamic block library and a sheet set. They are tested by opening them in a fresh drawing.

  • Running a routine

Module by module: what you actually do

Dynamic blocks

You create a door, window and furniture block with parameters, actions and value sets, and test every state.

Attributes and data extraction

Attributes store door numbers, equipment tags or part data, and data extraction builds schedules in tables or spreadsheets.

Team workflows

External references, layer standards and translation tools let several people work on one project without chaos.

Sheet sets

A sheet set organises many layouts, with fields in title blocks that update automatically from the sheet properties.

Customisation

Tool palettes, custom linetypes and script files speed repeated tasks.

Introduction to AutoLISP

You load and run simple routines, read what they do and make small changes, so you can safely use routines shared by colleagues.

How the training works

  1. 1. Book a free demo class
  2. 2. Receive the course outline, fees and timings
  3. 3. Get matched with a suitable trainer
  4. 4. Attend live classes and draw along
  5. 5. Finish project drawings with feedback
  6. 6. Receive your completion certificate

Projects you will work on

  • A dynamic door and window library
  • A drawing template with title block fields
  • A sheet set for a small project

Mistakes we fix early

Common mistakes and how to fix them
Common mistakeWhat to do instead
Overbuilding blocks with too many optionsStart with the three sizes people really use
No naming standardName layers, blocks and files consistently
Customising before knowing the defaultsLearn standard behaviour first
Never testing blocksTest every parameter and state before sharing

Who this is not for. If you still look for commands in the ribbon, take the core AutoCAD course before this one.

How this is used in real work

In busy offices, the person with a good template and block library is a hidden multiplier. A set of dynamic blocks and a trusted title block can save hours on every project.

Standards matter even more in teams. When drawings from different people share layers, text and plot styles, reviewing and sharing become much easier.

Careers and next steps

Speed is a hiring signal. A template and block library you built yourself, shown in an interview, proves it.

This course supports roles such as senior draftsman, CAD coordinator and standards champion. Show a template, a block library and a sheet set in your portfolio.

It is also good preparation for Autodesk Certified Professional topics.

Fees

Fees depend on the number of hours, batch type and track, so the counsellor shares the exact amount with your outline after the demo. See the fees guide to understand what changes the price.
