3ds Max Course – Modelling and Rendering
The 3ds Max course teaches you to model spaces and objects, light them and render images that clients can understand at a glance. Book a free demo class and a counsellor will share the complete outline, fees and batch timings.

Quick answer
3ds Max is Autodesk’s 3D modelling, animation and rendering software. In the course you model interiors and products, apply materials, set up lights and cameras and render still images, often starting from an AutoCAD plan.

About the 3ds Max Course
A good render is the result of many small decisions: scale, material, light and camera. The 3ds Max course teaches you to make those decisions deliberately, using real interior and exterior scenes as practice.
You begin with units and importing a CAD plan, then model, apply materials, light the scene and render. You learn how to avoid common problems such as dark interiors, flat lighting and heavy models that take forever to render.
The final modules cover composition and post-processing, so your images communicate the design clearly rather than just looking impressive.
Who should take the 3ds Max Course?
Interior design students
Presentation images win clients.
Architecture students
Show design intent with renders.
2D draftsmen
Add a visual skill.
What you will be able to do
- Set up scene units and import a plan
- Model walls, furniture and fixtures
- Apply materials and textures
- Light a scene with daylight and artificial lights
- Place cameras and render stills
- Post-process renders
Your first month. You import a plan, model a room and render a first view with basic lighting.
A worked example from class
You import an AutoCAD plan of a living room, extrude the walls, model a sofa and a TV unit, apply wood and fabric materials, place a camera, light the room with daylight and lamps, and render a still. You adjust exposure and re-render to improve the result.
What you need to practise
- 3ds Max access
- A computer with a strong graphics card and plenty of RAM
- A cleaned DWG plan
- Texture images
- Time for renders
How progress is assessed
Two finished renders, an interior and an exterior, are reviewed for modelling accuracy, materials, lighting and composition.

Module by module: what you actually do
Scene setup
Units, import and cleaning of DWG files are covered so geometry arrives at the right scale.
Modelling
Walls, furniture and fixtures are modelled with splines and editable poly, and reuse of objects keeps scenes light.
Materials
Wood, fabric, glass and metal materials are built with textures and mapping.
Lighting
Daylight and artificial lights are placed, and exposure is adjusted for a believable result.
Cameras and rendering
Camera angles, depth and render settings are chosen for stills.
Post-processing
Basic colour correction and layout of final images for presentation.

Visualisation tools
| Tool | Strength |
|---|---|
| 3ds Max | Detailed modelling and rendering |
| SketchUp | Quick concept modelling |
| AutoCAD 3D | Accurate geometry, limited rendering |
Mistakes we fix early
| Common mistake | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| Importing messy CAD files | Clean the DWG before import |
| Wrong units | Match scene units to the plan |
| Overly dark or flat lighting | Use physical lights and test exposure |
| Heavy models | Optimise geometry and reuse objects |
Who this is not for. If you need exact working drawings for construction, you need AutoCAD. 3ds Max is for visuals.
How this is used in real work
Interior and architecture studios use renders to win projects and explain designs to clients. A clear, honest render saves many rounds of revision.
Studios often split work: one person draws, another visualises. Learners who can do both are rare and valued.
Careers and next steps
Visualiser roles at interior and architecture studios ask for a portfolio of renders. Quality of lighting and composition counts.
Roles include 3D visualiser, interior design assistant and architectural visualisation trainee. A portfolio of two or three strong renders matters most.
Combine with AutoCAD working drawings to offer a complete service.

Fees
Fees depend on the number of hours, batch type and track, so the counsellor shares the exact amount with your outline after the demo. See the fees guide to understand what changes the price.
3ds Max Course FAQs
Do I need a graphics card?
A decent GPU helps rendering. Check Autodesk’s requirements.
Is AutoCAD required?
Not required, but importing plans saves time.
Do you teach animation?
Basic camera animation only.
Free demo?
Yes.
Do I need a powerful computer?
Rendering is demanding. Check Autodesk's requirements and use a good graphics card and RAM.
Is animation covered?
Only basic camera movement.
Can I import SketchUp models?
Yes, with some cleanup. Your trainer shows the steps.
How long does a render take?
It depends on scene complexity and settings. We teach how to test at low quality first.
