Revit Course – BIM Training

Our Revit course teaches you to build a building model once and get plans, sections, elevations and schedules out of it, instead of redrawing every view. Book a free demo class and a counsellor will share the complete outline, fees and batch timings.

Quick answer

Revit is Autodesk’s BIM (Building Information Modelling) software. You model walls, floors, roofs and families in 3D, and Revit generates the 2D views and schedules from the same model, so a change in one place updates everywhere.

About the Revit Course

Revit changes how you think about drawings. Instead of drawing lines that represent a wall, you place a wall: an object with thickness, layers, height and a place in a level. Plans, sections and elevations are then views of the same model, and they cannot disagree.

The course starts with that shift in mindset, then builds a small residential building from levels and grids upward. You learn which elements to model, which to draw as details and how to keep the model light and organised.

Documentation is half the job. You create sheets, tags, dimensions and schedules from the model and see them update when the design changes, which is the real payoff of BIM.

Who should take the Revit Course?

Architecture and civil students

BIM is asked for on larger projects.

AutoCAD draftsmen

The natural next step in a building career.

MEP designers

Coordinate services in a shared model.

What you will be able to do

  • Set up levels, grids and a project template
  • Model walls, floors, roofs, stairs and openings
  • Create and edit families
  • Make plans, sections and elevations from the model
  • Create schedules and quantities
  • Set up sheets and print

Your first month. You model a small house with levels, walls, doors and windows and generate its plans.

A worked example from class

You set levels and grids, place walls on the ground floor, add doors and windows from the library, and edit a window family by changing its width parameter. You then place a floor, a roof and a staircase. A section view appears automatically; you place it on a sheet with a title block and create a door schedule that updates when you add a door.

What you need to practise

  • A laptop that meets Revit requirements (it is heavier than AutoCAD)
  • Revit through trial or education access
  • A small building plan to model
  • Basic AutoCAD or drawing knowledge
  • A mouse with a scroll wheel

How progress is assessed

A small building model with plans, sections, elevations, a schedule and two sheets is reviewed for model accuracy and consistency across views.

Module by module: what you actually do

Project setup

Levels, grids, units and templates are set up so everything that follows is in the right place.

Modelling the building

Walls, floors, roofs, stairs, doors and windows are placed and edited, with attention to wall types and joins.

Families

Loadable families are modified with parameters, and you learn when to make your own.

Views and annotation

Plans, sections and elevations are controlled with view templates, and tags and dimensions are added.

Schedules and quantities

Door, window and room schedules are generated from the model.

Sheets and output

Sheets are composed with title blocks and printed to PDF or exported to DWG.

How the training works

  1. 1. Book a free demo class
  2. 2. Receive the course outline, fees and timings
  3. 3. Get matched with a suitable trainer
  4. 4. Attend live classes and draw along
  5. 5. Finish project drawings with feedback
  6. 6. Receive your completion certificate

Projects you will work on

  • A small residential building model
  • Door and window schedules
  • A sheet set exported to PDF

Mistakes we fix early

Common mistakes and how to fix them
Common mistakeWhat to do instead
Modelling without levels and gridsSet them up first
Using in-place families for everythingUse loadable families for repeated items
Drawing detail lines to fix the modelFix the model so all views stay consistent
Working in one huge fileLink models and split by discipline when needed

Who this is not for. If you have not yet learned to read plans and sections, learn that first. A model built without drawing knowledge goes wrong quickly.

How this is used in real work

Larger buildings are increasingly designed in BIM because coordination between architecture, structure and services is easier when everyone works in connected models.

Even then, 2D drawings and DWG files remain part of the workflow, which is why employers value people who know both Revit and AutoCAD.

Careers and next steps

Employers hiring for BIM roles often list Revit along with AutoCAD. Knowing both makes you flexible across firms with different workflows.

Common roles include BIM modeller, architectural assistant and MEP BIM draftsman. A portfolio with a model, three views and a schedule is a good start.

Specialise later in architecture, structure or MEP depending on your background.

Fees

Fees depend on the number of hours, batch type and track, so the counsellor shares the exact amount with your outline after the demo. See the fees guide to understand what changes the price.

Revit Course FAQs

Do I need AutoCAD before Revit?

It helps but is not mandatory. The mindset differs.

Is Revit free?

Students and educators can usually apply for a free educational licence from Autodesk.

Which Revit discipline do you teach?

Architecture first, with structure and MEP overviews. Ask the counsellor for the track.

Do I need a powerful laptop?

Revit is heavier than AutoCAD. Check Autodesk’s system requirements.

Free demo?

Yes.

Is Revit hard after AutoCAD?

It is different, not necessarily harder. The model-first thinking takes time.

What computer do I need?

Revit is heavier than AutoCAD. Check Autodesk's system requirements.

Do you cover Revit MEP and structure?

The course focuses on architectural modelling with an overview of the others. Ask the counsellor about specialised tracks.

Is a licence provided?

You need your own licence. Students may qualify for educational access.
